Welcome back, Matandani!  With all the success of last year there is a real excitement around the place now. Although we were sad to say good-bye to two wonderful teachers who have since moved to teach at schools closer to their homes, we are thrilled to share the news of gaining two additional classrooms! I’ll post some pictures of the new block in my next update, when the last few finishing touches have been made.
Through the hard work of dedicated teachers such as Kenneth Kassam and Max Daluni in Standard 8, Matandani continues to improve and make progress each year.  It is no surprise that more and more students from Matandani are being selected to move on to secondary school.  While last year, we sent 13 of our students to secondary school, we are thrilled to announce that 19 of our hardworking students were selected this year! Everyone at Matandani is hopeful that this number will continue to climb as further progress and improvements are made.

All this success places new burdens on Matandani. Word is out that Matandani is now one of the best schools in the area, so lots of students are transferring in. Most of these children are from the immediate local area, but they used to travel 3 or 4 kilometres every day to a school that had a better reputation. As you can see from the table below, every class is significantly bigger than last year. This is not an easy problem to manage, but it is a great challenges to have because it shows that Matandani is moving in the right direction!
