The good people of Good Vision Glasses returned to Matandani last week to test students eyes. On their first visit they conducted initial screenings of over 800 children. During these latest two long, exhausting days,  they screened an additional 150 children, did full eye tests on 355 children, and provided 161 pairs of glasses to the children who needed them! Good Vision sells its sturdy, locally engineered glasses for 2500 kwacha (6 euros) but they charged Matandani’s students …… NOTHING! This represented a whooping donation of almost 900 euro!

Good Vision estimated that about 10% of Matandani’s children would need glasses. In the end 18% of children tested required glasses. This makes us think about the unknown difficulties that these children have to overcome to get the education that they deserve.  But for those children who did have vision problems, these glasses will open their eyes to an exciting new world of learning opportunities.

The teachers got in on the action. They organised the students into testing groups, translated for the eye doctors, and helped conduct the initial screenings. All the teachers got tested and six of them bought much needed glasses for themselves!
