Work continues at Matandani with numerous activity around the school. With 10 volunteers there’s plenty of willing hands around to help with all of the work. The volunteers are discovering skills they didn’t know they had, and the school is improving at a rapid rate.
The main areas of activity are:
Classrooms and Teaching Resources
- Tidying the store room and principles office, ensuring all the books are going into the correct standards
- Organising the classroom lockers with the teacher
- Painting windows, doors, walls, doors and even the water station!
- Covering books- this will extend the life of the books and ensure that all books are labelled as property of the school.
Sports
- Installing the sports box- a new sports box was made for the school to house all of the new sports equipment that has been kindly donated to the school. There are new Badminton rackets, footballs, football kits and netball bibs, amongst other sports equipment
- Lining up, designing and building new Badminton Courts, and of course trialling the new courts with the teachers
- Painting the new netball posts, and fixing on new nets
Other activity
- Creating a first aid cupboard and educating the teachers on how to use the first aid kit
Work in progress
- Construction of new toilet blocks- the foundations are in place for the new toilets
- Installing sinks in each classroom- the first sink has gone into one classroom
There’s a real buzz around the school, and as we go into the next week it’s an exciting time at Matandani. Thanks to all of the volunteers for all their hard work!
