Meet Chitania Andson
He began teaching in 2013 because he likes helping children. His favourite subject to teach is science and technology.
In his free time he enjoys playing football for the Matandani team, singing, and writing poems.
One of his favourite teaching memories is the day he taught an especially great lesson on cooking food where he had every needed resource.
Meet Maxwell Daluni
He began teaching in 2013 because he believes in giving children knowledge. His favorite subject to teach is mathematics.
One of his favorite teaching memories is participating in a practical lesson on cooking food.
In the future he would like to be a primary education lecturer.
Meet Habibu Maloya
He began teaching in 1990 because he has always admired teachers. His favourite subject to teach is mathematics.
One of his favourite teaching memories is from when he was in college. He taught a music lesson to a large group of both teachers and children and received good marks.
Once he retires from teaching, he aspires to be a district education manager.
Meet Kenneth Kassam
He began teaching in 1996 because he wanted to help children fulfil their potential. His favourite subject to teach is English.
One of his favourite teaching memories is the 2003 school year; it was the year with great children and great secondary school results!
In his free time he enjoys carpentry, reading books, and writing short stories and poems.
Meet Mary Saenda
One of her favorite teaching memories is from teaching science in standard seven; she received great remarks from the inspector!
In the future she aspires to be a primary education advisor.
Meet MacDonald Maloya
His favourite subject to teach is mathematics.
One of his favourite teaching memories is from receiving good remarks during a social and environmental science team inspection.
In his free time he enjoys painting and drawing, making rope, and listening to music.
Meet Dirrice Ghocho
She began teaching in 2016 because she wanted to help children fulfil their potential.
Her favourite subject to teach in social and environmental sciences.
One of her favourite teaching memories is having students use their bodies to create objects and letters!
In the future she wants to be a teacher trainer.
Meet Faselini Khonsolo
She began teaching in 2015 because she wants to make Malawi a better place!
Her favourite subject to teach is agriculture.
In her free time she enjoys listening to music, reading, and playing netball.
Meet Idah Damiano
She began teaching in 2017 because she enjoys being around small children and wants Malawi to be a great, educated country. Her favourite subject to teach is English.
One of her favourite teaching memories is when she organized a workshop for teachers about how to improve education for learners with special needs.
In the future, she would like to see Matandani become a boarding school, so that students are free to learn with no disruptions.
Meet Comfort Mosolija
He began teaching in 2013 because he admired his teachers who spoke English and interacted with students.
His favourite subject to teach is mathematics.
One of his favourite teaching memories is when he was able to successfully explain the difference between multiplication and division to a struggling learner.
His view on teaching is that, “it’s done with your whole heart.”
Meet Collins Mulipa
He began teaching in 2012 because he was impressed by the professionalism of teachers and the fact that it’s a good job where you’re constantly refreshing your knowledge.
His favourite subject to teach is mathematics. He says, “It’s not good to not know math, everything is related to math. For example, going into shops and buying things.”
One of his favorite teaching memories is when the advisors supervised his lesson. He was very nervous beforehand, but afterwards they told him he’d done well. He was very happy!
Meet Gloria Kambuku
She began teaching in 2016 because it’s “her calling” and has been her desire since she was young. Her favourite subject to teach is mathematics.
Her favourite teaching memories are anytime she uses creative techniques, like singing and dancing, to improve learning.
Gloria is involved with the Ipad project at Matandani and says, “it’s good because it challenges the learners’ thinking capacities.”
Meet Patrick Msusa
He began teaching in 2016 because teaching plays a role in the government; everyone in the government was educated by a teacher! His favorite subject to teach is agriculture because most people in Malawi use it.
In his free time he enjoys playing and watching football. His favorite teaching memory is from teaching practice when the students’ families provided food for the teachers in training. In the future, he hopes that Matandani will have a library.
Meet Givemore Chipanga
He began teaching in 1999 because he wanted to help learners become productive citizens which would in turn help Malawi to develop. His favorite subject to teach is mathematics because he likes to share his enthusiasm with the students who sometimes don’t enjoy math.
His favourite teaching memory is when he taught the same students from standard 6 until standard 8 and then those students broke the school record for the number of students who passed to secondary school in a given year!
In the future, he hopes that Matandani will be a model primary school for Malawi.
