Depending on how many volunteers we receive and the nature of their stay volunteers will be housed in one of two ways.

——————————————————

Volunteers nearly always stay at Welcome Lodge in Songani. The lodge is a basic but perfectly safe and a hospitable place to stay. Every room is a double en-suite with a flushing toilet and shower. Each room is fitted with a large mosquito net over the bed.

The accommodation is secure and currently it costs 140,000MK a month. The lodge has a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Laundry can be done at the guesthouse and it is easy to get a bus into Zomba.

A second option for longer term volunteers is to stay at a rented house beside the school. This will naturally have pros and cons. Volunteers will have a more authentic living environment, more privacy and a shorter journey to school each day but will have limited services available. There is electricity  with kettle/microwave and hot plate, but with many blackouts, having a power-bank would be very useful. Laundry can be done by Mary at the school in exchange for a very small fee.
